Virtual Coffee 3/24/20

This morning we had our third virtual coffee meeting via Zoom, in lieu of our twice weekly downtown coffee klatsch. We are still spending the beginning of our meetings taking care of minor technical issues, but got in a solid 30 minutes. During that time, a number of books were mentioned:

    Thanks for the work on this Steve. I glanced at some of the questions and found a few good ones to include in our discussion. Some of the answer seem, to me, pretty obvious but I can be narrowly focused!! I did like the characters and a couple of chapters really hit home. The Hoel family story with the description of chestnuts and the impact an invasive disease (timely, huh) can have. I think I mentioned the much less significant problem with an invasive mealybug that attacks grapes and how quickly it spread.
    The introduction of Patricia Westerford was one of the best chapters I have ever read. Seen some of her laments in real life as well. Finally, I did have a couple of memorable trees in my youth, that I regularly climbed and where I spent time away from people.

      Trees at the houses we lived in are part of our family memory. The first one in Philly had a huge sycamore with its interesting bark and some low limbs for climbing. The one my parents bought when I was six had a black cherry in front and a dogwood out back, with several large maples too. I built a very dangerous treehouse in one of them when I was 12 or so. Why my parents let us I don’t know…
