Wolves

Carol and I both read The Rise of Wolf 8: Witnessing the Triumph of Yellowstone’s Underdog by Rick McIntyre. This is the first in a trio of books about the wolf re-introduction in Yellowstone National Park which started in 1994 and continues. McIntyre is a retired National Park Service wolf expert who spends amazing amounts of time watching the wolves (16+ hour days in the summer – now as a volunteer). His observations are detailed, scholarly, educational and just plain fun to read. We can’t wait for the next two books to come out.

It made me want to go back and read Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat. I could only find audio of it at the library and I listened to it in my shop so I missed some, which made me want to listen again. It’s short, so I did. Mowat is a great writer as has been noted in our book club several times (Thanks Doug) and Never Cry Wolf is a fun read.

Wolves are amazing creatures. We hope to be in Yellowstone this summer and see some again. Check it out: https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/nature/wolf-restoration.htm
